Christopher Mooney

Dr. Mooney is a theologian specializing in Augustine and the Augustinian theological legacy, particularly regarding the nature of faith and grace. He studied classics and theology at Georgetown University before completing an M.A.R. in the History of Christianity at Yale Divinity School in 2016. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame in 2021 and came to the Augustine Institute in 2022 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Notre Dame.

Dr. Mooney is the author of Augustine’s Theology of Justification by Faith (Cambridge University Press, forthcoming). He has also published in academic journals on the history of exegesis of James 2:24, Augustine's preaching on forgiveness, Aquinas on baptism and justification, and more. He serves as a theological representative in the US Catholic-Reformed ecumenical dialogue on justification and justice.
