Catholic School Teacher

We invite you to submit a general teacher application via the Catholic Education Careers Portal to be considered for multiple teaching positions throughout the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Once you submit your application, our Recruitment Specialist will follow up with you to get to know you, your gifts, and learn more about what type of school you are interested in serving at. We will share your application with principals as teaching opportunities arise that could be a great fit for you!

Our Commitment to Excellence

For over 160 years, Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis have partnered with families as the premiere way to provide excellence in education. Our Catholic schools seek to offer an education that forms the whole child.

Demanding but achievable academic standards and extensive study in core subjects prepares students for high academic achievement in high school, college, and beyond. The academic program kindles a love for learning and wonder. It embraces the true, the good, and the beautiful found in all academic disciplines and fosters a habit of thinking that critically engages ideas. A commitment to developing virtue in the classroom and in extracurricular activities equips students with the essential habits necessary to grow into adulthood living responsible, productive, and holy lives. Our apostolic outlook helps students respond generously to their vocation to serve God, others, and the common good, and a strong foundation in spiritual formation helps students encounter Jesus and the Church.

The Catholic School Teacher

Excellence in Catholic education is impossible without dedicated and strong teachers. Teaching in a Catholic school, no matter the subjects taught, is an invitation to share deeply in the Church's teaching ministry and experience the joy of helping students to grow into the person God created them to be. This vocation requires special qualities of mind and heart, careful preparation, commitment to professional growth, and learning, and readiness to renew and adapt.

Catholic schools are fundamentally unique from other education options and teachers must be equipped with the knowledge and professional skill to ensure the manifestation of a robust integrated Catholic curriculum in their classroom.

Minimum Professional Standards

Teachers in Catholic schools in the Archdiocese must meet the following minimum professional standards:

·        - A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

·        - A deep commitment to the importance and mission of Catholic schools

·        - State licensure is not required for teachers in Catholic schools. Experience in teaching is preferred.

In addition to the minimum professional standards for teachers, only practicing Catholics who will give a credible witness to the faith are eligible to serve as teachers of religion.

The Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis

The Archdiocese assists parishes and Catholic schools in connecting with potential Catholic school teachers who meet the minimum professional standards in the Archdiocese. The Archdiocese does not hire or employ Catholic school teachers. Catholic school teachers are hired by and work for the Catholic school or parish. Parishes and Catholic schools are legally separate and distinct from the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

By submitting an application, you are expressing interest in serving in the role of a teacher at a Catholic school located in the boundaries of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis (the 12 county metro area). In doing so, you authorize the Archdiocese to share your application with Catholic schools in the Archdiocese which are seeking teacher candidates. Information provided to the Archdiocese by completing the application for the position of Catholic school teacher does not constitute an expressed or implied contract or offer of employment by the Archdiocese or any parish or school.

Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their behavior must not violate the faith, morals, or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese, such that can embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal.
