Sr. Maris Stella

Biography

Sister Maris Stella, S.V. currently serves as Vicar General of the Sisters of Life, where she helps lead a vibrant community dedicated to proclaiming the dignity and sacredness of every human life. Before entering religious life, she graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and served for five years as a Naval Officer. Her professional and military experience laid a strong foundation for her leadership and mission-focused work within the Church.

While serving in the Navy, Sister Maris experienced a profound encounter with God’s love in the Eucharist, which opened her heart to a religious vocation. After meeting the Sisters of Life, she knew she was being called to lay down her life so that others might live and have eternal life. Since entering the community in 2006 and professing final vows in 2014, she has served in numerous apostolates, including the formation of postulants, the Visitation Mission to women vulnerable to abortion, the Hope and Healing Mission for those suffering after abortion, and the Denver Mission of Evangelization.

A native of Massachusetts and the second of four children, Sister Maris Stella holds a Master of Arts in Theology from the Augustine Institute. She has also conducted extensive research and writing on John Cardinal O’Connor, the founder of the Sisters of Life, helping preserve and share his legacy of pro-life witness.
