Course Description

As daughters of God the Father in the divine Son and sanctified by the Holy Spirit, all women are called to holiness. This universal vocation to the life of charity is expressed in countless ways, as may be seen in the lives of holy women in both the Old and the New Covenants. This course will examine a variety of sources–cultural, historical, theological, and Biblical–in order better to understand the role of women in the Church (the Body of Christ) and in culture and society at large. A guiding assumption of the course is that women are called to instill the nobility of the Gospel into a broad range of human activities, in accord with the complementarity they share with men. A particular concern of the course will be to examine motherhood (biological, adoptive, and spiritual) as a unique feminine role, which will entail a parallel reflection upon fatherhood and masculinity.
