MetaxasThe Augustine Institute is pleased to offer a live-streamed lecture given by critically-acclaimed writer Eric Metaxas on January 18th at 7:00 PM Mountain Time.

To view the live streaming click on http://www.livestream.com/augustine

The lecture, entitled  "Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Why He Matters Today," will take place on Tuesday, January 18th at 7:00 PM Mountain Time in Bonfils Hall at the John Paul II Center, 1300 S Steele Street, Denver, CO.

The event is free and audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions of Mr. Metaxas following his talk.

Mr. Metaxas’ 2010 book Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr and Spy was praised by Archbishop Chaput as a “biography of uncommon power—intelligent, moving, well researched, vividly written and rich in implication for our own lives.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a Lutheran pastor and theologian, was put to death by the Nazis for his participation in the German resistance during the Second World War.  Mr. Metaxas also wrote the New York Times bestseller Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery and the apologetics trilogy, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About God.

Click here to read a Denver Catholic Register article on the lecture.

Mr. Metaxas’ talk is the third in a Lecture Series sponsored by the Archbishop of Denver, Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M., Cap. and the Augustine Institute. For details surrounding the complete 2010-2011 Lecture Series, call 303-715-3123 or email info@archden.org. All lectures are free and open to the public.

Dr. Edward Sri will be leading his annual pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi May 23-31, 2011.

This pilgrimage is open to the general public and typically includes some of our on-campus students, some of our distance education students and various other people from around the country. Our distance education students may be particularly interested since there is the option to participate in this pilgrimage and receive course credit that could be applied toward your Master’s degree at the AI.

Just a Few of the Many Sites…
  The Catacombs of St. Calixtus
St. Peter’s Basilica / John Paul II’s tomb
Private Archeological “Scavi” Tour to St. Peter’s Tomb (depending on availability)
  Vatican Museum (including Sistine Chapel)
Mamertine Prison (where Peter & Paul were imprisoned)
San Clemente (1st century Christian “house church” of Pope St. Clement )
  The Major Basilicas
  Tomb of St. Paul
Relics of the True Cross, Holy Stairs, Coliseum, Pantheon
  Audience with Pope Benedict XVI
Assisi day-trip (including tombs of Sts. Francis and Clare)

A few optional pre-pilgrimage lectures will be offered on our campus in Denver sometime over the Friday, Sat. or Sunday before the group leaves on Monday, May 23.

After the pilgrimage, students who decide to do this for course credit will write a paper on one of the sites or themes discussed in Rome. The course can be applied toward the following classes: SCRP 626: Romans, SCRP 524: Pauline Literature, HIST 521: Evangelization of the Ancient World, HIST 524: Crisis of Modernity and the Renewal of Christian Culture, SCRP 624: Themes in Biblical Studies.

The pilgrimage is open to the general public, so feel free to pass on this info to any friends and family who are welcome to participate. Last year a number of spouses came and even some multi-generational family members participated!

Please see the informational brochure for more details about this unique pilgrimage and feel free to contact Dr. Sri if you have any questions at 303-937-4420 x109.

Spots can be secured by sending a $200 non-refundable deposit to the Augustine Institute main office.

Limited spots are available as Dr. Sri takes a small group. Spots are given to those who submit their deposits for as long as spots are available.  A number of deposits have already been submitted for this May's trip, so please email Dr. Sri as soon as you know you are interested.
