The Augustine Institute is proud to serve as the new home
of Nova et Vetera.

Nova journalWe are pleased to announce that Nova et Vetera, the distinct English edition of the longstanding Swiss journal, is now being published by the Augustine Institute. For the past seven years, the journal was published by Sapientia Press of Ave Maria University. We owe profound thanks to Sapientia Press.

Under the Augustine Institute, the editorial focus of the journal will continue as it has the last seven years. The journal strives to follow the culturally engaged, ecclesial, broadly Thomistic, and dialogical perspective of the founder of the Swiss Nova et Vetera, Charles Journet.  Journet worked at the intersection of theology, philosophy, and biblical studies, and we seek to do the same.

Authors who have published articles in Nova et Vetera include a wide variety of eminent scholars: Robert Barron, Richard Bauckham, Romanus Cessario, OP, Georges Cardinal Cottier, OP, Archbishop J. Augustine Di Noia, OP, Avery Cardinal Dulles, SJ, Francis Cardinal George OMI, Richard B. Hays, Russell Hittinger, William Kurz, SJ, Bruce Marshall, Francis Martin, Frank Matera, Edward T. Oakes, SJ, Michele Schumacher, Christopher Seitz, Janet Smith, Geoffrey Wainwright, Thomas Weinandy, OFM Cap., and Robert Louis Wilken, among many others.

Nova et Vetera Mission Statement

The English edition of Nova et Vetera is published quarterly and provides an international forum for theological and philosophical studies from a Thomistic perspective.  Founded in 1926 by future Cardinal Charles Journet in association with Jacques Maritain, Nova et Vetera is published in related, distinct French and English editions.  The English edition of Nova et Vetera welcomes articles and book reviews in theology, philosophy, and biblical studies that address central contemporary debates and discussions.  We seek to be “at the heart of the Church,” faithful to the Magisterium and the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, and devoted to the work of true dialogue, both ecumenically and across intellectual disciplines.
