Overview of Our Catholic Distance Education Program

distance education

"As a parish youth minister, I knew that the Augustine Institute would help to equip me to teach.  In the past year and a half, I can say without a doubt that both my  ministry and my own faith life have been blessed immensely by the Augustine Institute's Distance Education program.  The format allows me to work and study on my own schedule, and the classes have led me to fall more and more in love with my Catholic faith.  I am so grateful for the great work that the Augustine Institute is doing for the Church, and I highly recommend the Distance Education program to anyone who wants to grow in knowledge and love of our Lord and His Church. "

Catholic Youth Minister and Franciscan University of Steubenville Youth Conference Host

Mission

The mission of the Augustine Institute is to provide graduate students with a coherent and unified instruction in Scripture, Catholic doctrine and history, as well as the pedagogical and leadership skills to impart the same to others. Under the patronage of St. Augustine of Hippo and in imitation of St. Thomas Aquinas, the patron of teachers and the common doctor, the instructors and students of the Institute endeavor to place themselves under God's grace for the purpose of being formed in memory, intellect and will, into effective instruments for the renewal of Catholic culture by a union of faith and life in the New Evangelization. The whole of this task is undertaken in a spirit of filial obedience to the pastors of the Church and in full submission to the Magisterium.

The Augustine Institute's video Catholic distance education program makes our unique formation available to the many religious, lay people, catechists and educators around the country who have expressed interest in our Master's program, but are not able to move to Denver full-time. Our distance program will make it possible to complete your Master's degree from your own location, at your own pace and on your own time. You will also be able to combine regular fall and spring distance education courses with intensive summer and winter classes to complete your Master's in as little as 2 years.

Degrees, Programs and Courses Offered

Course Requirements

Each course will have online quizzes each semester to help students gauge their progress; courses usually conclude with a final exam . All quizzes and exams will be primarily objective with a subjective element (i.e. short answer and essay questions). In addition, students are expected to participate in the online course discussion forum.  Finally, each course requires a paper or writing assignment of some kind to demonstrate comprehension of the course material.

Online Course Management System

At the beginning of each semester, a web page for each class is established inside the Augustine Institute's Moodle Online Course Management System. In Moodle, students interact with their Teaching Assistant and with each other via a course forum and chat room. Assignments and electronic documents are posted for students to read and study. Quizzes and exams are often offered online through the Moodle system, which allows students to receive immediate feedback on objective questions. Even papers can be uploaded to the Teaching Assistant through the Moodle system. Students also receive access to the Student Center page where they can find updates about the A.I. Distance Education program, helpful information on paper writing, and other tools and resources.

Assistance Throughout the Semester

Each course will have a qualified Teaching Assistant available regularly to answer any questions over email or through our Moodle online course management system.
