Letter from the Archbishop of Denver

Archbishop Chaput

Dear Friends of the Augustine Institute:

I am delighted to have the Augustine Institute in the Archdiocese of Denver. I rejoice at the presence of a Catholic Master's program devoted to the training of lay people for their many ministries and activities in the Church.

Among the many pastoral needs of any diocese is the need for good lay leadership. The Augustine Institute, devoted to the formation of lay Catholic leaders and fully in accord with the Magisterium of the Church, is an excellent answer to this need. I have had the privilege of reviewing the curriculum and the formation program of the Augustine Institute, and I have complete confidence in it. I am convinced that this program is a gift, not only to the Archdiocese of Denver, but to the Church throughout America.

In 1993, the Holy Father spoke to the youth of America in Denver for World Youth Day. Since then, Denver, in many ways, has been at the heart of the New Evangelization. I believe the Augustine Institute will some day draw young people from all over the world and train them to take the New Evangelization back to their homes, parishes, schools, and communities.

We have a singular opportunity to train generations of lay leaders for this great commission given to us by Jesus Christ through our Holy Father. I urge that you join me in advancing the Augustine Institute through prayer and generous financial support. May God bless you for the sacrifices you make to further this vitally important work for the Church.

May the Lord bless you and give you peace,

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, OFM Cap., Archbishop of Denver
